We all have an interest in knowing more than our current awareness. Divination is a time-honored manner for seeing into the fog ahead. The mundane understanding sees it as fortune telling. The more discerning person realizes that divination is an extension of intuition, knowing from within by contemplating an outer mirror. The divination tool, whether it be Tarot cards, yarrow sticks, or the foam on a beer mug, reflects the spiritual union of inner world and external reality, for the simple reason that "as it is above, so it is below."
